The Reservoir is a study of an island on the periphery of urban Hong Kong. The piece attempts to reveal potential moments of transcendence amidst the island's unusual mix of terrain and infrastructure: dense rainforest, Buddhist monuments, an international airport, and Hong Kong Disneyland. The still images follow a footpath that links the island's various landmarks. The video component of the piece records actors meditating on board a subway line that also traverses the island. The overworked Hong Kong performers begin in a state of performative self-awareness but inevitably become just another exhausted commuter.
