The Infinites is an over-sized kaleidoscope that infinitely reproduces images from Western art history's visual archive of the Far East: trade porcelain iconography, chinoiserie motifs, early photo essays, diagrams of Chinese gardens, reverse glass paintings, and illustrations of depots filled with opium. This pictorial streamof- consciousness is narrated with passages from Thomas de Quincey opium-induced memoirs and approximates the range of visual culture that would have informed de Quincey’s stereotypes and Orientalist fantasies.
